Judy Alane (Beach) Engel, 65, of Broomfield, passed away June 24, 2016.

She was born June 5, 1951 in Elmira, New York, the daughter of Don and Virginia (Fullhart) Beach.

She was a graduate of Aurora Central High School, Class of 1969.

On July 29, 1986, she married Don Engel, whom she met at Coors Distributing in April, 1980; they immediately became inseparable.

Judy had a successful and lengthy career in Human Resources. She started at Coors Distributing Company in 1971 where she worked for 23 years. There, she started as a full-charge bookkeeper and worked her way up to become the company’s first Human Resources Manager. After leaving Coors Distributing Company, Judy moved to First Plus Financial where she was the Human Resources Regional Manager for the West Coast. Finally, she became the Human Resources Regional Director for Wellbridge, covering the East Coast. Judy retired in 2004.

Judy loved being a mother, she was always so proud of her son, Ben. When he unexpectedly passed away in 1993, she was devastated. To celebrate his life, every Christmas she would give family members special “Angel Ben” gifts. She also loved spending time with her step-daughter, Melissa. Whenever Judy would travel for business to Portland, Oregon, she made sure that the two of them got together for dinner and a visit. Melissa always took her around to see many of the city’s attractions.

Family was extremely important to Judy. She looked forward to holidays and birthdays, when her family would get together to celebrate. Easter was a special holiday since she enjoyed memorable moments cooking a feast in the kitchen with her sisters, Jewel and Jill. Her nieces and nephews were very special to her.

Another important family to Judy was her community at Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church in Aurora. One of her favorite activities was dreaming up fun crafts for the children during Vacation Bible School. Another beloved activity was when she and her mother would get together weekly with several of the church ladies for lunch or a birthday celebration.

Judy’s much loved hobby was playing the piano. She was very surprised when her parents gave her the gift of a new piano after she and Don moved into their new home. Judy's final wishes for the piano is for it to be donated to the Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church, so others can enjoy it as much as she did.

Judy was a lover of all animals and made regular donations to many of the pet rescue organizations. Her favorite animals were cats and often had 4 in the house at one time.

Judy was also very proud of the home her and Don built together in 1991. She enjoyed decorating every room in specific color schemes. During the Christmas Season, many friends and family would stop by for a visit and comment on how every room in the house was beautifully decorated with her many Christmas treasures and décor. Judy’s yard was another one of her many enjoyments and she was known for her green thumb. Especially, when it came to her rose bushes, shrubs and house plants.

Judy adored traveling. She enjoyed taking many long trips on her and Don’s Goldwing Motorcycle. In addition to all the trips on the motorcycle, she especially enjoyed and had many fond memories of the two cruises that they took in 1991 and 1995. Judy introduced Don to Las Vegas on their first trip together. No matter what trip they took if there were slot machines you would always find Judy playing her favorite slots “Wheel of Fortune”. She had a lucky streak and would usually walk away a winner.

Judy will always be remembered to her family and friends as someone that had an unencumbered spirit and had a spitfire personality. She had the most infectious laugh that always put people in a good mood. Judy was a very strong and proud person and kept a very positive outlook on life.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of almost 30 years, Don Engel; Step-Daughter, Melissa (Matt) Plett; Two Sisters, Jewel Beach and Jill Anderson; Niece, Erika (Aaron) Chapman; great-niece, Natalie Chapman and great-nephew, Isaac Chapman.

She is preceded in death by Father, Don Beach; Mother, Virginia Beach; Son, Benjamin Gaston; Nephew, Chad Keithley and her four favorite cats, Melissa, Ashley, Muffin and Mitten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Judy's name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or online at https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671&sc_icid=header-btn-donate-now .
