Dr. Earl Nelson Seavall, 85, of Denver, died Janaury 4th, 2017.

Dr. Earl Nelson Seavall was born in Alden, IL, on February 24th, 1931, son of the late, Gustav Seavall and Anna Wittchow. Earl is survived by his 4 children, all living in the Denver Metro area; Vicki (Stuart) Buchmann, Grant (Nancy) Seavall, Kelly (Scott DeLaurentiis) Seavall, Crystal (Bob) Garland, along with 8 grandchildren; Marguerite & Clara Buchmann, Nicole, Jack & Ashley Seavall, Bobby, Nathan & Marcus Garland. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Jean Seavall and brother, Gustav Seavall.

Jean and Earl began dating in High School. Jean was a sophomore and Earl was a junior. For Jean’s 16th Birthday and their first date, Earl took her to the Rivera in Lake Geneva, WI for dancing by the lake. His gift to her was 16 yellow roses and a mirror and hair brush set. They continued to date until Jean’s High School graduation, 1950, and her departure for Florida.

Following Earl’s graduation in 1949, he went to 2 years of college in Chicago, IL but he still did not know what he wanted to do with his life. So in 1951, he enlisted in the USAF for 4 years as a Dental Assistant stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, near San Antonio, TX. While in the Airforce Earl received the “Airman of the Month Award” and he was Honorably Discharged.

Jean and Earl did not date for about 3 years. In 1952, Jean wrote a couple of letters to Earl and he replied. Soon Earl was tagging along on training flights to Florida on weekends. Jean & Earl went to dances, ocean beaches, sports events, and local sightseeing.

Jean (age 21) and Earl (age 22) were married on Sept 18th, 1953, at the Hebron Methodist Church in Hebron, IL, with a large, evening ceremony and dinner in the Church parlor.

After a one week honeymoon in Minnesota & parts of Canada, they returned to San Antonio.
In 1955, after Earl’s military duty he entered the Dental School at Creighton University, in Omaha, NE. They bought a new home in Council Bluffs, IA where they lived until 1961. At Creighton he received the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Award, from the Dental School.

In 1961, Vicki was born, and Earl celebrated his graduation from Creighton Dental School. He graduated 1st in his Dental Class which allowed him to make his next move to Chicago, Illinois, where Earl attended the University of Illinois. In 1963, Earl graduated with his degree in Orthodontics and a Master of Science Degree. Earl and Jean picked Denver, Colorado to be their new home. By 1965, Jean & Earl had designed and were building their home on W. Yale Ave in Denver. This is where their family grew; Grant born in 1966, Kelly in 1969 & Crystal in 1971.

For 38 years Earl practiced and grew his very successful orthodontic career. Earl served in various leadership roles in the Denver Dental community. He served as President of the Colorado Orthodontic Association, Metropolitan Denver Dental Society, and the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontics. He also received many Honorary Awards. He received an Honorary Alumni Award from the University of Colorado Dental School, the “Life Membership” by the American Dental Association, and he was the recipient of the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontics Distinguished Service Award. Earl served 2 years as Grand Master of the Denver Chapter of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, helping establish the Alpha Delta Undergraduate Chapter, at the University of Colorado Dental School.

In 1979 Jean & Earl made the move to Littleton and the Bow Mar South community to live on Tule Lake Drive. Earl served as President of the Bow Mar South Community Homeowners Association in 1988. For 27 years the Seavall family enjoyed the community; the children grew up, attended local schools, various colleges, celebrated weddings, the births of grandchildren, and held Jean & Earl’s 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration.

Earl was a dedicated supporter of his 4 children’s swimming careers. Starting in 1966, with Vicki learning to swim. A total of 45 years was spent driving to swim practices, attending swim meets at Pinehurst CC summer league, year round club teams, national swim meets all over the country, high schools and finally college meets at CSU, U of Kansas & Iowa State U. Earl could always be found in the stands cheering and supporting his children along with their other team mates.

Throughout Earl’s whole life he had a passion for anything outdoors. One thing that drew him to Colorado was the mountains. As soon as he could, he learned to ski. He loved then sharing his passion for skiing with his children. For 43 years Jean & Earl were members of Pinehurst Country Club. Where Earl loved to spend time working on his golf game. He also loved to garden, and make sure that the outside of his house was always pristine. From the perfectly hand polished sailboat, the beautiful rose bushes, to the well-manicured yard. Especially around the Holidays, any neighbor can vouch that he was a master of outdoor illumination. The Holiday Season would officially begin when Santa and his Reindeer were on the roof and Frosty was waving to people from the front door. He had a passion for a Yamaha motorcycle, and a very fancy Lincoln Continental. He loved to celebrate the 4th of July, with the loudest fire crackers he could bring back from the Wyoming border. Speaking of loud, you always knew when the Denver Broncos were playing, as he was the loudest fan cheering, whether from his season ticket holder seats, or his living room. Not to be forgotten, Earl had the sweetest tooth of any person in the Orthodontic/Dental field. He was known for wearing bowties. Always having a big, friendly smile to great you. He adopted the nickname “Earl the Pearl”. And many a friend, neighbor, or friends of his children’s, always knew the best time to visit Earl was around cocktail time. The bar would be open; any drink of your choice would be available, whether it was a Manhattan for Jean, or a Gin and Tonic for himself.

In 2006 Jean and Earl made the decision to simplify their life and move to Saint Andrews Village in Aurora. This was a difficult move with so many years of memories and memoirs. Once moved and settled in their new home, Jean & Earl became the spoke persons for St Andrews Village. They were featured in print and TV commercials. Earl and Jean loved their life and new friends at Saint Andrews Village. Earl was voted President of the Resident Council in 2008. The last 5 years at St Andrews Village, the amazing staff helped take care of the widowed Earl, as well as all of his wonderful neighbors and friend.

This past October, the Seavall children decided that it would be in Earl’s best interest to move him to a smaller assisted living complex. Earl liked the idea, as it put him back near Pinehurst Country Club; he was living at Sunrise at Pinehurst. Unfortunately 2 days after moving in, Earl fell and fractured his hip. He had a successful surgery, and moved back to St Andrews Village, Skilled Care for Rehabilitation. Again the staff was amazing to him. His recovery was not great, and we believe he longed to be with his wife Jean of 58 years. He moved back to Sunrise at Pinehurst, where he received wonderful, loving care during his final days. He passed away on Wednesday January 4th at 5:25 pm.

Earl the Pearl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him!
