In Memory Of
Chad Verne Johnson
1969 - 2017
Chad Verne Johnson, an avid outdoorsmen and family man, died Feb. 8 surrounded by family and friends after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 47.
A spirit of nature, Chad never missed an opportunity to hunt and fish with family and friends growing up, carrying on that tradition when he moved to Colorado. He especially enjoyed camping with his wife and two children.
Chad was quick witted and relished the opportunity to engage in a verbal sparring match on nearly any issue, from politics to sports, often exasperating those who sparred with him. In spite of that, his generous spirit was reflected in numerous kind acts. Friends credit Chad with saving numerous homes from a forest fire burning in his mountain neighborhood.
Chad was born September 25, 1969 in Storm Lake, Iowa and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1988. He developed life-long friendships while attending Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he was a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. He graduated in 1993 before the Rocky Mountains beckoned him to Denver, where he met Kristin through mutual Iowa State friends.
Chad is survived by his loving wife Kristin Johnson and two beautiful children, Luke (14) and Riley (12), all of Morrison, CO; parents, Dick and Pat Johnson of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister Terry Foell (Jim) also of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother Kelly Johnson (Karyn) of Hamlin, NY; sister Angie Mumma (Andy) of Adel, Iowa; sister Sara Payne (Greg) of Clive, Iowa; mother-in-law Celeste Cater Plank of Hampton, NH; father-in-law Robert Plank of Evergreen, CO; and sister-in-law Kara Plank (Paul) of S Berwick, ME. He has 15 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life Catholic Mass will be held Monday, Feb. 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made at www.youcaring.com/kristinjohnson-754337.
