Helen Darlene Connor was born on July 1, 1934 to Helen Celone and William Marshall Knox in a small farm house located in Nashua, Iowa. She was named after her mother but always went by her middle name, Darlene. Darlene was married to Thomas Bernard Connor on May 23, 1953. They were married just shy of 61 years before Tom passed away in 2014. Tom and Darlene have four daughters – Julie Jean Connor (deceased July 2012), Vicki Lynn Deitchel, Doris Ellen Ford (Tim), and Karen Sue Burgwald. Eight grandchildren – Steven T. Ford (Tarryn), William H. Ford III (Jenna), Mallory A. Ford, Eric D. Deitchel, Adam T. Deitchel, Kayla J. Burgwald, Connor B. Burgwald, and Jillian O. Burgwald. And two great-granddaughters – Ava A. Ford and Sydney P. Ford.

Darlene has one surviving sibling, Donna Copper (Joe) who lives in Iowa. Darlene was preceded in death by her older brother Wallace “Wally” Knox.

Tom and Darlene lived in Waterloo, Iowa from 1953 until they moved with the girls to Arvada, Colorado in 1971. While in Waterloo, Darlene was kept busy with four daughters and worked in retail for a time. After getting settled in Colorado, Darlene found her niche working in the roofing industry as an Office Manager. After Tom retired from his 35 year career in telecommunications, he bought and operated an auto salvage business. Darlene would come home from a day in the roofing business and complete the daily bookkeeping and bank deposits at night for Tom’s business. She worked tirelessly to keep all moving parts of their lives going in the right direction and she made it look so easy.

Darlene was right by Tom’s side as they enjoyed fishing, scoping out a new hunting spot, going to the auto swap meets – you name it, you’d find them together. Darlene never complained if Tom wanted to go fishing AGAIN….she would pack a bag, the food for the weekend, a couple of good books and off they’d go. While they were at their second home in Glendo, Wyoming she’d be busy cleaning, cooking, painting or fixing something when they weren’t out on the lake. It was on rare occasion that you’d find Darlene sitting idle. She liked to keep her world neat, clean and organized. And when she did slow down long enough at the end of day to enjoy connecting with Tom, you could rest assured she was enjoying her favorite Scotch and water.

Tom and Darlene lived at their home in Broomfield, Colorado for 37 years. Darlene took pride tending to the many flower beds around the property that would frequently attract her favorite Hummingbirds. Sadly as Darlene’s memory issues increased and Tom’s physical health was failing, they needed to move to Mountain Vista Village Assisted Living and eventually Darlene was moved to Skilled Nursing after Tom died. Darlene passed quietly and peacefully on March 22, 2017. Darlene was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother – she will be missed.
