Richard Alden "Dick" Williams
1930 - 2017
Founder, Real Estate Training Center of Colorado

Richard Alden "Dick" Williams was born April 5, 1930 to William B. and Mary Alden Williams in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was an independent man whose life was full of pursuits and accomplishments. In 1967, Dick launched a lasting career as a Colorado Real Estate Broker and formed 'Dick Williams & Company.' In an effort to expand, and acutely aware of the need for education and quality recruiting, he created a real estate prep course to attract new sales associates. Both the writing and teaching of this course enhanced his knowledge of the real estate field and soon he found himself the owner of a successful school and real estate brokerage. Based in Lakewood, Colorado, 'Real Estate Training Center' for almost 50 years is one of the oldest private real estate schools in the State and has National approval for many of its courses as well. For many years, the school operated as one of the only institutions with the original owner/founder at the helm. Since 1969, well over 150,000 students have been trained for the State real estate exam using techniques developed by Dick.

From 1969 to 1981, all classes were taught live; however, in 1981 the State granted approval to offer classes on VHS video tapes - which made RETC the first real estate school in Colorado to use approved video instruction.

From 2004 to present a 100% interactive internet course is offered for the 168 hour broker program - along with many continuing education courses; or live classes, classes on CD and also textbooks. Dick was very proud to be able to provide numerous learning methods to students.

In 2013, Dick became ill and requested that his stepson, Brent Hayes, take over the day-to-day operations of the school with Dick's assistance as needed. Today, Brent is the President/ School Director of the thriving business.

In 1972, while Dick was teaching in Grand Junction at then Mesa College, he met this young woman, Orie Vaye Hayes, a student. After much coaxing for a year, she agreed to open RETC and Dick Williams & Company on the Western Slope of Colorado. Today, that school location has been re-established, and is expanding.

In 1977, Dick and Orie Vaye were married. For the last 40 plus years their lives have been blessed with Pop/Mom businesses, a blended family, love, laughter, tears, and refreshing commitment to one another each day. Most and best of all, their fundamental spiritual consecrations to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have been foremost in their lives. At the present they have dual church memberships: Salvation Army, Denver, CO and Platte Valley Christian Center in Saratoga, WY.

Dick's hobbies were racquet ball, travel, and a lot of fishing.

He was a model husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by Orie Vaye his wife, a beloved, blessed family with six children: Edwin, Constance (Steve), Neil (Susan), John (Traci), Charlotte (Ray), and Brent; as well as eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and family members.

He is preceded in death by his brother Bill, and sister, Priscilla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dick's name to:
Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center
4751 Broadway
