In Memory Of
Joan M. Elder
1931 - 2017

Joan M. Elder, 86, of Arvada, passed away September 30, 2017.

She was born March 24, 1931 in Passaic, New Jersey, the daughter of Paul and Mildred (Verbeke) Failla.

She was a graduate of Netcong High School in New Jersey. She was a CPA at Yeargin Inc and took early retirement in July of 1991.

Joan was a former member of Presbyterian Church in Arvada. She also was a former member of the Red Hat Society.

Joan enjoyed entertaining family and friends and was always the favorite around children, still willing to play chase and have a water balloon fight even in her final years. She also enjoyed swimming at the YMCA for exercise. Joan was passionate about collecting lighthouse ornaments and dishes. She was always present for get-togethers and birthdays and never wanted to miss a celebration.

She was very considerate and generous and will be greatly missed by those who loved her, and always remembered as an amazing person, neighbor and friend.

Joan is survived by two sisters, Diane J. (John) Himyak and Linda Lee Smith; son, William (Jill) Elder; five grandchildren, Amanda (Nick) Smith, Melissa (Christian) Baumgart, Joseph (Jennifer) Elder, Jessica (Ryan) McAnally and Jennifer Elder; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by father, Paul Failla; mother, Mildred Failla; son, Paul Elder and brother, Jack Failla.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2460 W 26th Ave # 500C, Denver, CO 80211.
