Raymond Dale "Ray" Owen
1948 - 2017

Raymond Dale Owen, 69, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on January 28, 1948 in Banner County Nebraska to Dale R. and Verna Elnora (Montz) Owen and attended school in Harrisburg, Nebraska.

Ray started his construction career with big equipment at the young age of 9 by helping his father, who worked for the county, blade the roads and helping various farmers drive grain trucks and other farm equipment. Ray always wanted to fly, so he earned his pilot’s license at an early age and was a private pilot for a coal mine. Throughout his life did many different construction jobs, including building golf courses, working in the oil field industry, and ended working for 25+ years with Interstate Highway Construction where he was a Project Superintendent. During his tenure with Interstate Highway Construction Ray introduced new technology to apply to the job to achieve better results and increase production.

Ray married his soul mate Debra Stair, whom he had lived with for over 24 years in January 2017. Together they enjoyed traveling and Ray put up with Deb’s obsession of taking in “every damned stray that came to the door or that she found”. He enjoyed baling hay, and was always willing and happy to help others in need.
Ray is survived by his wife, Debra Owen, a daughter by a previous marriage, and three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister (Neva Joslyn).

A memorial service will be held in spring of 2018.
