Edwin Eugene "Ed" Hurt, 78, of Golden, Colorado, passed away on February 7, 2018 after a brave battle with ALS in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 14, 1939 in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the son of Oliver and Marjory (Ford) Hurt, longtime ranchers in the Durango area.

He was a graduate of Durango High School in 1957. He attended Fort Lewis A & M in Durango.

He honorably served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam Era and was discharged as a Sergeant.

On November 16, 1985, he married Judith Russell at Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Golden ever since.

Ed was a former Deacon at the Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was currently attending Arvada Covenant Church. He was also a member of the Early Ford V8 Club Hi Country Chapter, the Buick Club, and the Chevy Classics Club. He attended many Early Ford V8 national meets and received the Dearborn Award on several of his cars. Ed was also a member of the Denver Timing Association.

As a young man, Ed owned several hot rods and would drive them and use them in Drag Races. A recent highlight was a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway where he drove an open-top Indy Race Car and reached a top speed of 169 mph.

Ed loved hunting and fishing. He was a 20-year Season Ticket holder for the Colorado Rockies and rarely missed a game. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended every event that he could to show his love and support. Ed loved food and loved to eat. He would try anything new. He loved to travel and traveled all over the world with his wife, Judith. Ed was an animal lover. Ed was a true handyman. He could repair and rebuild anything with his hands and was mechanically-minded. He was always busy with projects. He never hired anyone to do anything that he could do himself. He was very self-sufficient and proud of it.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Judith Hurt; son, Joseph A. (Cheryl) Russell; daughter, Kristen D. (Kevin) Larson; six grandchildren, Morgan A. (Natalie) Russell, Kaitlin R. (Jason) Quinn, Brendan J. Russell, Katherine M. Larson, Kelly D. (Joey) Robertson and Karianne E. Larson; three great-grandchildren, Bear O. Quinn, Lakota R. Quinn and Tehya M. Quinn with one great-grandchild due in July, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by father, Oliver Ozro Hurt and mother, Marjory Ruth Hurt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to ALS Association, Rocky Mountain Chapter, 10855 Dover St. Ste. 500, Westminster, CO 80021.
