Anna Mae Snell, 99, died Thursday, February 16, 2018 in Lakewood, Colorado. She was born in Greenville, Illinois on July 4, 1918, to Manus and Anke Bylsma. Their family lived for many years in Wellsville, Missouri, where Anna graduated from high school. As a young woman, she joined the Civil Service where she spend a year in occupied Japan and served at Ent Air Force and Ft. Carson Army bases in Colorado Springs. During her service, she met and married Owen Snell, who preceded her in death in 1991. Following their marriage, she lived in Colorado Springs for more than fifty years where she enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, sewing, and volunteering. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowship and being of service.
Anna is survived by her two daughters, Kathie Snell of Lakewood, CO. and Nancy Ruggles of San Diego, CA; Kathie’s husband Steve Ochoa of Lakewood; four grandchildren- Grant and Chase Ochoa of Lakewood and Rick and Shelly Ruggles of Colorado Springs; two great-grandchildren, Caylob and April of Colorado Springs; and her sister Florence Russell of O’Fallon Missouri.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 26 at First Baptist Church of Colorado Springs, 317 E. Kiowa St., 80903. A private viewing will precede the services at noon. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 1000 S. 26th St, Colorado Springs, 80904.
