Raymond Wai Ming Hugh, 56, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on March 12th, 2018.
Ray was born on October 22, 1961 in Hong Kong, China, to his father Kam and his mother Shui (Shim) Sik. He and his family moved to Brooklyn when he was in grade school, where he spent his time at parks and playing newspaper baseball with his siblings. Ray was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and of Columbia University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
On June 11, 1994 he married Kathleen Gilbert, of Columbia, South Carolina. The couple then moved up north to New Hyde Park on Long Island. After five years, they found themselves in Rockland County, NY where they raised their two daughters, Nan and Amanda. Ray spent his last several months having a blast out in Aurora, Colorado where he and his wife relocated in November.
Ray was a true “nerd”; he loved his work where he could apply his vast “depth of knowledge” and challenge himself and those around him. Ray was “a good friend a good father and good man”. He was a “true gentleman and great fun to spend time with” and always “made others around him feel comfortable and welcomed”. Ray had a contagious “beaming smile” and knew how to make people laugh with his “dry humor” and sarcasm.
Ray loved adventures, big and small. In the past year, he was the pitcher for his NICE co-ed softball team, ran a Warrior Dash, completed a City Challenge Obstacle Course, rode a mechanical bull, and went snowmobiling in the Rockies just to list a few. Ray also loved dancing, playing with little ones, trying out new recipes, watching “bad movies” with his daughter, and hanging out with his buddies. Most importantly, Ray was a family man who made countless sacrifices for his loved ones.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Hugh and his two beautiful daughters, Nan Hugh and Amanda Hugh. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kam Sik and Shui Shim. Ray is also survived by his siblings: Eric, Mei, Robert, and Richard as well as his nephews and nieces: Adam, Anthony, Judy, and Jaclyn.
The Hugh family will be holding two memorial services for Ray. The first will be held on Friday, March 23rd at 10am at Faith Presbyterian Church located at 11373 E. Alameda Ave., Aurora, CO 80012. The second will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 10am at All Souls Community Church located at 81 Washington Ave., Suffern, NY 10901. Both services will be followed by a reception.

"Uncle Ray Ray", "Buffet Ray", "Meerkat", "Daddy" knew how to love and was loved by everyone.
As many of you know, my dad was my best friend. From our Costco trips to road trips, singing out of tune, sarcastic remarks, and trying new foods, my dad and I did everything together. My dad loved nothing more than his family - he would and did do anything and everything for his beautiful wife of over 23 years and his two very spoiled daddy's girls. I have no regrets about our relationship or our family- I knew how much he loved me and he knew how much my family and I loved and always will love him. While all daughters deserve a loving and supportive relationship with their father, not all are blessed like Nan and I were to have that. Neither are all couples blessed to have the loving and supportive relationship that my parents had. Yes, it feels like our time together was unfairly cut short, but I thank God that He gave him to me for the most important years of our lives. We have nothing but happy, silly, and loving memories and I could not ask for more.
My dad had an amazing life that he loved living. I hope you all find comfort knowing that he had a blast these past couple of months. From Sunday dinners and hangouts at Oliver's to snowmobiling to trying out new recipes, dad was living his best life and he sent me LOTS of picture that prove so.
Our lives are going to change a lot, but we are going to be okay. There will be tears and heartache but there will also be smiles and happy hearts filled with love and memories. We will learn to live for my dad and he will be there with us though every minute of it. We know that there are so many of you praying for us and my daddy and we feel nothing but love and support. On behalf of my family, I would like to say thank you for everything. For those of you who are taking care of us day to day, I would like to remind you to take care of yourselves and to let us take care of you too - we are all in this together. Death is never easy, but I have already seen so many beautiful things come out of this and I hope you try to see them too.
