Alberta Reidle LaBere was born on February 10, 1932 in Hillrose, CO; and before her 1st birthday, her mom and dad, Margaret and George, relocated to Fairview, MT. to work in the sugar beet field. While in Fairview, she welcomed a sister, Gloria, and twins, Dennis and Dianne, to the family. The family lived in Fairview for 19 years. The family moved to Denver in 1952 when the twins were 6 and Alberta joined them after living in San Diego for 4 years. She began planting her roots in the Denver area and married her love, Ed Simpson, in 1959. She was blessed by the arrival of her only child, Sheila on October 5, 1961. The girls became inseparable throughout the years, even living next door to each other. The marriage didn’t last and Alberta continued her life. Finally Alberta met the love of her life, Hugh LaBere. They were married at Mount Rushmore on June 28, 1986 in a very unforgettable wedding. Alberta loved the adventures of traveling the country and Hawaii with Hugh as they were representatives selling very special Western art, figurines, clothing, and anything “special”. They also had a showroom and office at the Denver Merchandise Mart for many years. Alberta loved her family very much but we think she loved opening presents even more. Birthdays and Christmas’ were so much fun as she would always try to sneak opening her gifts and would be more excited than any 3 year old could ever be. We know that she is in heaven now playing marbles with her mom and Hugh right now. But, we also know that when she sees Gladys (Nicholson), there will be a mean game of high-stakes poker going on. Yes, there was also a competitive side to Alberta.
Alberta is survived by her daughter, Sheila Simpson; her sister, Gloria Mikan; her brother, Dennis (Sherry) Reidle, brother-in-law Dwight Nicholson (Dianne, deceased); and her very special neighbor, Cleo Chavez. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her beloved dogs (her constant companions).
Services will be on Friday, June 1, at noon at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2300 S. Patton Ct., Denver, Co. Burial will be at Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery with a reception following the graveside services. The reception will be at Crown Hill.
