In Memory Of
Carmel "Carmen" Vieyra
1931 - 2015

Carmel (Carmen) R. Vieyra, 83, of Erie, CO—formerly of North Platte—passed peacefully at home on May 19, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Carmen was born on August 7, 1931 in Sutherland, NE. to Francisco and Margarita Anton Reyes. On Aug. 16, 1950, Carmen married the love of her life John Vieyra in a beautiful wedding ceremony filled with family and friends. John and Carmen made their home in North Platte. They were blessed with nine children.

Carmen will always be remembered as being a beautiful and loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who cherished and lived life to the fullest. She truly brought joy and grace into all of the lives that she touched. She worked hard to help provide for her family. She was an avid volunteer for the North Platte community, and for her beloved St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She worked for St. Mary’s Hospital, and the Salvation Army.

Throughout Carmen’s life she was a passionate and devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very patient, understanding and would often spend late nights talking with her children while she was cooking Mexican food. She was a wonderful cook, and could make a meal large enough to feed her entire family. Her favorite pastimes were telling stories about her childhood, dancing, spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo and watching Mexican Telenovelas.

She will be deeply missed and will be forever in our hearts. Her legacy will live through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, John, parents, son; John David “Bullet” Vieyra; and three siblings.

She is survived by 11 siblings, and her children, Sharon Vieyra, Erie, CO; Delilah Sandoval, Northglenn, CO; Diana (Orlando) Martinez, Lafayette, CO.; Mark (Theresa) Vieyra; Elodia Vieyra, Veronica Vieyra all of North Platte; Carol (Tony) Alvarez, of Deming, NM and Elaine Simon of Maywood; 14 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren from North Platte, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
