In Memory Of
Gerald P. Howard
1931 - 2015
He was born April 25, 1931 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the son of Lloyd and Georgiana (Washington) Howard.
Gerald enlisted into the military in the year of 1950. He spent 26 years serving his country. He traveled to places such as France, Spain, and Germany to name a few. He was a combat medic and he was discharged July 1977.
He attended Columbia College. On October 26, 1973 he married Clara Howard, of Aurora, Colorado.
After serving in the military he became an Arapahoe County Sheriff. He also was a postal mail handler and also worked as a nurse at Fitzsimons Hospital for a few years.
Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years of his life. He would rather be on a fishing bank somewhere than home eating a home cooked meal. He would love to hunt for doves, pheasants, or anything that flew. Then he would bring it home to cook and force us children to taste it.
He was a very active member of the church where he was referred to as the General. He would love to share many military stories with the men of the church.
Something a lot of people probably didn't know about him is that he loved to shop and whatever he bought he most likely had two of everything.
His grandson Julius said he always felt like he dressed like one "cool cat."
One thing for sure, he always liked to have his car cleaned and sparkling which was done by his son Jay.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Clara Howard; children, Monica (Robert) McNeal, Paul (Patricia) Poole, Sr., Hilliard Poole, and Kimberly Sanders; thirteen grandchildren, Dana McNeal, Alex McNeal, Nicholas (Carrissa) Poole, Paul Poole, II, James Allen, Nathaniel (Adrianne) Poole, Jerona Poole, Brian Poole, Julius Sanders, Octavia Huddleston, Tory Watkins, Sparkle Rutledge, and Madonna Mayes; nine Great-Grandchildren, Jordan (Donte) Hill, Jyair Poole, Amaya Poole, Surae Poole, Jaylah Sanders, Mekhi Huddleston, Jasiah Douglas, Jayden Stevenson, and Darryl Rutledge, Jr.; and one great-great-grandchild, Donte Hill, Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Georgiana Howard; daughter, Deborah Poole; son, Marty Poole; one sister and three brothers.
