He was born in Deer Trail, Colorado March 11, 1921. He attended Colorado State University. In April of 1944 he received his doctorate from the School of Veterinary Medicine. He married Bernece McCampbell in July. They moved to Strasburg where he began his career. He was a respected country vet whose practice extended from Denver to Limon and lasted forty five years.
Among his many community service activities he was a director on the board of the Intermountain Rural Electric Association for nearly 3 decades.
He is predeceased in death by his beloved wife and dear sister. He is survived by 5 children: Dorothy Lynn Calhoun, Susan Clemens, Carolyn Larralde, Sidney James Hanks, and Kenneth Hanks. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in the new Strasburg High School Gymnasium at 56729 E. Colorado Blvd in Strasburg. A reception will follow at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church on Iowa Street.
