Geraldine C. Carter
1923 - 2016

Geraldine C. Carter, 93, of Lakewood, passed away October 26, 2016.

She was born February 1, 1923 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of James and Rebecca (Rafferty) Needham.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Denver.

She was married to Robert Carter in 1942.

Geraldine was a member of the Women of the Moose and also the VFW Auxiliary where she was an officer. She attended a weekly women's Bible Study affiliated with Southwest Assembly of God Church in Denver.

Geraldine loved to craft, especially make ornaments. She also would crochet afghans. She loved to watch football games with her son, Nick. Geraldine loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Geraldine's son, Nick, writes:

"My mother cared for her entire family. When my grandmother had a breakdown, my mother, along with her brother and sister helped her. My mother took over the role of Mother to my Grandmother. She enjoyed watching her brother race cars. She also enjoyed watching my cousin and then his nephew race as well.

"My mother loved watching my granddaughter Brittany when she was small. When Brittany would wake up, she would kick the footboard to let my mother know that she was awake. My mother would always wait outside the door for Brittany to kick the footboard again before going in and getting her out of bed. Brittany would be so excited to see her Great-Grandmother and so happy that she was able to get her Great-Grandmother without having to yell or scream. This became a game that they would play every time that Brittany slept at my Mother’s.
My mother also enjoyed watching Dominick and would spend long hours playing in the yard with him. One neighbor commented that Dom would load his Granny in a large lawn wagon, hand her his dog and pull them down the sidewalk.

"Before Mom moved in with Rebecca and me, she always had every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinner at her home. The whole family was always invited.

"She also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Joanne before her wedding. Later, her granddaughter brought her out to California to spend time with her family.

"God blessed all in the Family when he gave us my mother. She was a friend to everyone and so kind. When she was asked how she was doing, the answer always was “Can’t complain, I have had a blessed life.” I would like to thank and give praise to Our Lord and Savior for my Mom."

Geraldine is survived by her Son, Nicholas P. (Rebecca) Carter; Three Grandchildren, Joanne (Duane) Norris, Bernadette (Orlando) Manzanares and Josette (Eli) Naranjo; Four Great-Grandchildren, Brittany Manzanares, Jasmine Norris, Tyne Norris and Dominick Naranjo; Sister-In-Law, Lila Needham and Several nieces and nephews including Jimmy Needham and Keith Grant.

She is preceded in death by her loving Husband, Robert W. Carter; Parents James C. and Rebecca Needham, Brother, James Needham; Sister, Rosemary L. Grant and Son, Richard Joseph Carter.
