Alva James "A.J." Wynkoop
1931 - 2018
A.J. moved with the Wynkoop family to Colorado as a child and grew up on the Western Slope. He was married to Delores Owens on March 27, 1949 in Fruita, Colorado. They later moved to the Denver area and eventually settled in Littleton, where they made their home.
A.J. worked for 36 1/2 years for the Gates Rubber Company, most of which were in the shipping and receiving department. He was a valued employee and well-liked by his co-workers. For many years after retirement he enjoyed friendly relationships with many of the men and women he came to know during that employment.
He loved Colorado. Camping and riding his dirt bike in the mountains was something he never tired of. He delighted in showing others the beauty of God's Country, as he called it. A.J. was a man who could always be depended upon. He was dearly loved by a host of relatives and friends.
A.J. is survived by his daughter, Christeena (Nick) Schaefer; two sons, Keith (Laura) Wynkoop and Calvin (Leslie) Wynkoop; two grandsons, Kevin (Jean) Denny and Justin (Rebecca) Talmadge; one great-grandson, Jared Talmadge; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Talmadge and step-grandchildren, Harvest Smith, Alex Schaefer and Natalie Schaefer; three sisters, Mary Young, Leatha (Harry) Kettle and Leona Bell (Paul) Justice and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Delores Wynkoop; his parents; four brothers, Ivan, Eddy, Paul and Stanley Wynkoop; four sisters, Lois Roofener, Dorothy Rolland, Virgie Brown and Joy McPherson and granddaughter, Angel Wynkoop.
