On January 10, 2019 Cornelius F. "Charlie" Brown Jr., (age 79) took his flight to Heaven.
Cornelius F. Brown was born December 30, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Cornelius and Minnie Ola (Turner) Brown.
Cornelius was affectionately called "TBone" by his family and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev I. H. Henderson Jr. at the Friendship Baptist Church. He attended Charles Sumner and Booker T. Carver Elementary Schools. In 1957, he graduated early from Lincoln High School as he was very smart. After high school, he had his great grandma "Mama Minnie" (who raised him) to sign him into the U.S. Air Force at the age of seventeen years old.
Charlie honorably served in the Air Force and continued his education by attending college through the military. He retired as a Master Sergeant on September 30, 1980 after a 23-year career that saw him as a Military Policeman for 15 years with the last 8 years in Procurement. After retirement, he worked an additional 14 years at Fitzsimons Army Base in the Civilian Personnel/Procurement department. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Even after retirement, he was a member of the Air Force Security Police Association proudly displaying his service.
On August 13, 1960, he married Edna Doris Nero. Together they raised five sons.
Back in "TBone's" early years he loved to dance. Co-worker and friends would call him Charlie Brown - while family members knew him as Brown, Big C and Mr. B! He also came to be affectionately called "Pops" by his sons. Charlie enjoyed trips to the Black Hawk casino and played his scratch tickets and lotto daily. He was a huge Denver Broncos fan and always followed Colorado sports. He also enjoyed watching Western movies and news channels. Charlie was a devoted and loving husband and the caretaker of his wife after her stroke in 1994 until she passed in 2015. He cherished the time that he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always there for his sons. No matter how old they were, he was always there to help take care of any situation, big or small.
Cornelius is survived by four sons, David "Terry" Brown, Mike A. Brown, Mark T. Brown and Moses S. Brown; five grandchildren, Jasmin Brown, Cimone Brown, Avori Brown, Brandon Brown and Dayne Brown; three step-grandchildren, Bryon Blueitt, Angel Lindsey and Derrick Lindsey; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Thompson and Jeremiah Thompson; two half-brothers, Vinz Brown and Kevin Brown; half-sister, Arminta Brown; Cousin Elaine Turner Bossell (Jerry); Uncle J.T. Turner (97); Aunt Faye Tillman, John Nero, Ollie "Chappy" Nero, Alfreda Woolridge, Alfred "Danny" Woolridge, Bethlyn "Lynn" Mosley and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Edna Doris Brown; son, Curtis Brown; grandchild, Shanon Brown; father, Cornelius Brown, Sr. and Mother, Minnie Ola Brown and his Grandfather and Grandmothers.
