Steven Michael Smith
1988 - 2019

Steven Michael Smith, 30, of Denver, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, April 14th. He was born to Elsa Cruz Fernandez and Mike Smith, July 4th, 1988 in Denver, Co. Steven graduated from Jefferson High School in 2006. He met his wife Breanna Decker in 2007, and they lived together in Appleton, Wi., before relocating to Denver in 2015.

Steven was employed for almost four years with Polystrand, now PolyOne, and was always excited about making a safer, enjoyable work place for his coworkers. Steven grew up attending services and youth group at New Hope Ministries. He loved to spend time with his family, and enjoyed grilling, hiking, and video games.

Steven is survived by his wife, Breanna Decker, 29, and their two children: Rylan Gene Smith, 9, and Tristan Elijah Smith, 7, formerly from Wisconsin, now of Denver. He is also survived by his mother, Elsa Cruz Fernandez, from Denver, and his father, Mike Smith (Debb), of Claremore, Oklahoma; siblings Nicholas and Adrian Ornelas, Mike Grady Smith, and Suzell and Jesus DeLeon (and spouses Yolanda and Nicolette); stepbrother Michael Buyno and family; nieces and nephews Elijah, Trinity, Israel, Journey, Hope, Alicia, Angelita, Reign, and Jlyssa. He is also survived by his aunts and uncle, Elida (Ellie), Emma, and Paul Cruz. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Ascension (Nena) and Estevan Cruz, and uncle Steve Cruz.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that living plants or dishes to pass for after the memorial service be donated.

A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 5 pm to 8 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held at New Hope Ministries at 3:00 pm followed by a pot luck dinner in Steven’s memory.
