Raymond Bates Buker, Jr., DD

Dr. Raymond Bates Buker, Jr., Evergreen, Colorado, graduated to Heaven Friday, July 5, 2019. He was 93 years of age.

Ray was born December 26, 1925 in Lewiston, Maine; the son of the late Dr. Raymond B. Buker, Sr. and Mary Dorothy Buker.

At the age of nine months, Ray’s family moved to Burma where his parents served as missionaries along with Ray Sr.’s identical twin brother, Dr. Richard Buker, Sr., and his family. His formative years were spent in boarding schools in Burma, India and America. He was a graduate of Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, where he also excelled in track. He was also a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Mass.

Ray served in different positions with the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society, currently WorldVenture, for a total of 48 years; as a missionary to Pakistan, then on the administrative staff and, upon retirement, as a special representative here in the States.

He was member of the First Baptist Church in Golden, CO.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Benjamin, and beloved cousins, Drs Richard, Robert and Gerald Buker. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jean MacGregor Buker and their children, Merelyn (Larry) Brown, Carolyn (the late Jim) Cawley, Stephen (Susan), and Timothy (Debra). He was the loving grandfather of five grandchildren, Michelle Ingrum, Christina Froehlich, Tamera Durivage, Edwin Buker, and Frederick Buker. He also leaves behind five great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 12, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 1805 Washington Ave., Golden, CO. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am at the church prior to the service. A private interment will be at the Golden Cemetery.
