John Neponogeno Lopez, 86 of Denver passed away on Thursday September 5, 2019 surrounded by his family.
John was born in Segundo, Colorado on March 16, 1933 to Gabriel Lopez and Dora Aragon. John also had 5 siblings: Louie, Lee, Margie, Ruth and Gloria. In 1951, he married his wife Margaret and together they moved to Denver.

John was a Truck Driver for Safeway Stores from 1978 until he retired in 1998. He was also an active member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters where he served as the Union Steward while employed at Safeway and then as an Organizer after his retirement from driving. He was passionate about the change Unions brought to the workforce and loved the movement that raised up workers into the middle class. He was a fighter, standing up for workers against low wages and poor benefits and working with leaders such as Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa.
In his free time, John was a runner even placing in the top 10 in the Bolder Boulder in his age category. He also loved to fish, hunt, and hike.

John is survived by his wife of 68 years Margaret R. Lopez of Denver; His children, MaryLee Lopez and Rebecca Lopez; his grandchildren, Alexandria B. Vigil (Estrada), Adrina E. Estrada, and Margaret M. Lopez-Workman, along with his great-grandchildren, Damien Lopez-Blea, Jovanni Lopez-Blea, Adysen Vigil, Nae’yanni Estrada and Leila Workman. John is preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Lopez.

A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd, Lakewood CO 80226 on Thursday September 12, 2019 from 5-7pm. Memorial Service to follow at 7pm.
