Dorthy Francis Peter was born June 30, 1929 to Charles Peter and Margaret Zapp Peter in Trenton, IL. They precede her, as does her sister Evelyn Thurman and brother in law Ralph “Pokey” Thurman, brother Carl Peter and Sister-in-law Vivian Peter, and niece Sue Ellen Thurman Bair.

She is survived by her partner of 55+ years, Billie Ann Camp of Arvada, CO, her sister Marjorie and brother-in-law Carl Bopp, nieces and nephews Jerry Thurman, Kathleen Peter, David Peter, Caroline Peter-Haddad, Michelle Bopp, Teresa VonBokel and Corrin Short, Marsha Bair Fox, Tim Bair and first cousin Beverly Rogers, Marilyn Lamb, Jack and Florence Klopmeyer

Dorthy graduated from Trenton High School in 1947 and graduated from Illinois State University in 1951 with a
degree in teaching. She taught in Illinois until moving to Colorado in 1954. She taught at Cheltenham Elementary School in Denver Public Schools until her retirement at age 55 in 1983.
She was blessed with a beautiful voice, which she shared at family weddings and her hometown church in Trenton, IL. She was one of the first members of the Denver Women’s Chorus, and it served as her musical family for many, many years. Her other passions included fishing and skiing in the Colorado mountains and always having a piece of chocolate every day.

On November 3, 2019, Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, Gallery Hall, 1980 Dahlia St, Denver, CO 80220. Gathering of Friends and Family at 2:30pm, Celebration of Life Service at 3pm, Reception/Refreshments following the service.
