In Memory Of
Lawrence Leonard "Larry" Bossert
1932 - 2020

Larry (Lawrence) Leonard Bossert, 87, died on February 8, 2020 near Morrison, CO. He was born on August 21, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Leonard Francis (d. 1947) and Anna Margaret (Murphy) Bossert (d. 2001). He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, Michael T. (d. 1951, age 11) and Edward F. (d. 2017).

As a child, Larry loved visiting his grandmother’s farm in southern Missouri. Boy Scouts were very important to Larry, achieving the rank of Star & a Brave in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say with a tribal name of Singing Lizard. Larry entered St. John’s Roman Catholic Seminary in Kansas City, MO, at the age of 12. He suffered life-threatening injuries in a car accident in 1951, when his young brother was killed. His survival convinced him that God had spared his life for a special purpose. He entered Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis where he studied for 7 years post high school, was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1957 and served in several different parishes throughout Missouri for 9 years. He left the priesthood in August of 1966 to marry. He was employed as a Probation Counselor with the City and County of Denver Probation Department for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1996. After his retirement he worked as a Blackjack dealer for private catering companies.

Larry loved the Denver Broncos and was a season-ticket holder for about 50 years. He was an avid connoisseur of fine wines and experimented with making his own wines. He enjoyed spending time at the casinos in Black Hawk, Central City, and made frequent trips to Las Vegas. He won over 50 royal flushes at video poker. Because he was born in the Chinese Year of the Monkey, his good luck charm was a Beanie Baby red monkey, now very worn. A dream of his was to become a blackjack dealer, which he accomplished. He loved playing the guitar, graphology and Bio-Rhythms. He baked fabulous bread and was truly a gourmet cook. After his retirement he joined the Silver Sneakers and attended regularly. His favorite song was, “I Did It My Way” by Frank Sinatra!

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Meredith (Brewer) Bossert of Morrison, CO, his brother, John (Terrie) and sister, Mary Ann Pitts of Missouri. His passing leaves a void in many lives. He leaves behind eleven first-generation nieces and nephews, their children, and great grand nieces and nephews. Each was precious to him and brought him joy! He shared his love of skiing, camping and climbing the Colorado mountains with many of them. Elk Run Assisted Living Facility gave him good care during the last 9 months of his life. He will be missed by best friends, Barbara Aiduk, Patsy Hathaway, Jennifer & Bear Jamison, plus Jennifer’s children from a previous marriage, Samantha & Brandon Anderson. All of these people were tremendously solicitous and helpful to him in the past two years and added significantly to Larry’s quality of life!

Celebrations of life will be held at later dates.
