Robert “Bob” Lee McConnell, 86, of Strasburg, CO, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 in Centennial, CO.
Bob was born to Howard ”Mac” and Mary McConnell on September 24, 1933 in Beaconsfield, Iowa. At the age of 9, his family moved to Colorado. After graduating from Estes Park High School in 1951, he joined the US Air Force and served in Europe.
Upon his return from the service, he embarked on a 35 year career as a telecommunications engineer, as an employee of The Western Electric Company, which became AT&T.
In 1960, during a bout of appendicitis, Bob met his wife of 59 years, Jeanette, who visited him with a bowl of homemade Mulligan stew while he was recovering. They were married on March 12, 1961 and had 4 children, Mark, Kenneth, Raymond and Janelle.
In 1968, Bob and his family moved to Strasburg, CO, where they became active in the community. They were members of the Strasburg Community Presbyterian Church, served as firefighters and EMTs in the volunteer fire department, and bowled at the Lucky Strike Lanes. Bob also served as a member and president of the Strasburg School Board from 1977 to 1985. As School Board President, he had the honor of presenting all 3 sons with their high school diplomas.
After retiring on December 31, 1989, Bob spent his time travelling with his wife for genealogical research and craft shows, visiting family throughout the states, and creating many wood projects both carved and constructed. He liked to spoil his family as much as possible.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Mac and Mary McConnell, his siblings, Janice, Jack and Richard, and his daughter, Janelle. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Larson) McConnell; his three sons, Mark McConnell and Sandy, Kenneth McConnell and Jenny and Raymond McConnell and Heidi; his 5 grandchildren, Robert McKinney, Brian McKinney and Brittany, Autumn McKinney, Kaitlyn McConnell and Rebecca McConnell; and his 4 great-grandchildren, Dominic, Jaxon, Savanna and Bethany.
