Frances M. Winn
1937 - 2020

Frances M. Winn, 82, a lifelong resident of the beautiful state of Colorado peacefully passed away on May 24, 2020. COVID-19 may have taken her life but never her beauty. As David Searls says, “Seeing death as the end of a life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.” This is not the end of this beautiful soul; it is an amazing new journey instead.

She was born on July 31, 1937 to Frank and Margaret (O’Henry) Dunnington in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Frances attended school in Steamboat Springs, she was active in the town and was a Rodeo Queen, twice. She was one of the biggest fans of her beloved Denver Broncos and never missed a game. She bled orange and blue, she was never without something Bronco and loved going to the stadium.

She was well known as a compassionate, caring, selfless person with an amazing sense of humor and forever feisty. Frances enjoyed playing computer games, solitaire, relaxing in her recliner with her headphone on listening to music or watching her favorite cartoons or Broncos games.

Frances worked for the old Mountain Bell (what is now Century Link) and retired in 1984 after 32 years on the job. Frances was one of the original operators, she loved the job of using the big connection boards and by the time she retired she was an Investigator in the Fraud Division. She had a Denver Broncos themed retirement party, complete with a stadium cake.

Frances had 4 children with her loving husband, James L. Winn who preceded her in death on 12/24/1980. Frances and James were married in 1958 by a Justice of the Peace in Denver, Colorado. Son Dale Lee Winn; (deceased) 9/24/1961 – 5/17/1962, Daughter Rhonda Lyn (Winn) Martinez; who currently resides in New Mexico, Daughter Brenda Marie Winn; (deceased) 1/5/1964 – 8/29/2018 and Daughter Kanda (Winn) Finch; who currently resides in Colorado.

Frances is survived by one sister: Nancy E. (Dunnington) Bates, who resides in Longmont, Colorado.
She had 6 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren and absolutely loved them with every part of her soul. All of whom will miss her “Grandma silliness” very much. Frances always had her best bud; BenBen with her. BenBen was an original Cabbage Patch doll with a bald head and a cute dimply smile. Frances took BenBen with her everywhere and he was her comfort to the end, BenBen will be laid to rest with her.

Frances’ family wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation for all the caregivers who took care of her in her final days. Taking that extra time to be so loving and caring for her made the pain easier for her and her family, thank you.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to aid the family with expenses. Please reach out to Newcomer on how to help the family in this difficult time.

Frances will be so deeply missed, but we are forever thankful that is she now at peace.
