Edward James Jones
1931 - 2020
Edward (Slim) James Jones 4/21/1931-7/1/2020 passed away at the age of 89.
He was a 2nd generation Colorado native. Born in Denver, grew up in Englewood and lived in Conifer for 64 years.
As a young child he started work delivering newspapers. Upon leaving Englewood High School he joined the Navy during the Korean War, served on the U.S.S. Princeton aircraft carrier and was a lightweight boxer for the Navy. In later years, his occupation was an in-town truck driver for Navajo and Pacific Intermountain Express of which he was rewarded many safe driving awards.
Married Shirley J. Webb of Des Moines, Iowa in 1954, and raised their 3 children in the Conifer mountains. They were married 55 years until her passing. He enjoyed being married.
Ed was a kind gentleman with an empathetic soul and a strong work ethic. People warmed quickly to his easy and friendly manner. He took care of his family and community; always quick to lend a helping hand. For 22 years he was a volunteer firefighter, of which he served as Chief for 8 years with the Elk Creek Fire Department. In his spare time, he built several homes with one nail and hammer at a time and remodeled many more.
His leisure time was watching T.V. with his family for only one show, Bonanza, playing solitaire, and collecting old coins. Once a month he would take his children to play Bingo giving his wife an evening off.
His morning ritual was reading the newspaper, including the funnies, with a cup of coffee. As he retired to bed three days prior to his death he requested to have his unread newspapers organized. He passed away peacefully at home, just where he wanted to be.
Preceded in death are; Mom Helen Memovich, Dad William Jones, Wife Shirley, Son David, Sons-in-law: Bruce, and Larry, Siblings, William, Helen, Donald, and Gary, along with many life-long friends.
He leaves behind; Daughters Cheryl and Carol, Son in-law Sharvez, Grand-daughters Monica and Heather, their husbands Joe and Noel, Great Grand-children Matthew, Zander, Nolan, Jovona, Melody and Brother Richard.
In lieu of flowers do something special with your loved ones. Take Care.
