In Loving Memory of Joyce E. Lyle
While we are sad in her passing, we celebrate in a life well lived. Joyce E. Lyle was born Joyce Elaine Heck on October 12, 1927 in Mound City, Missouri. She passed away peacefully with family at her side at home in Aurora, Colorado on July 4, 2020. Her death, like her life, was full of grace and dignity.
Joyce was the daughter of Robert Earl Heck and Sidney Rosetta (Nay) Heck. She was the ninth of their ten children. Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death. Growing up on the family farm she attended the local schools graduating from Bellevue Consolidated High School on May 11, 1945. She went on to attend then graduated on May 26, 1949 from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, now known as Northwest Missouri State University, in Maryville, Missouri.
Marrying the love of her life, Homer A. Lyle from Maitland, Missouri, on July 29, 1951 she followed him in his Navy career where he became a Navy fighter pilot. Their sons, David then Dwight, were born while Homer was still in the Navy. After Homer left the Navy, he and Joyce and the boys returned to Missouri where Homer followed in his father’s (Harold) footsteps and went into banking. While in banking the family also lived in Atlantic, Iowa where their third son Doug was born; Omaha, Nebraska; Overland Park, Kansas before finally moving to Aurora, Colorado in 1979. Joyce was active in her garden club, the American Association of University Women, and was a master bridge player. While life took Joyce many places, she held tight to her Missouri roots going back to the Heck family reunions and other Heck and Lyle family events as often as possible.
Most recently Joyce was a resident of St. Andrew’s Village Assisted Living Center until her stroke in May. She moved back with her son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Mary, to be able to have her family near. Joyce was well loved and is survived by her sons David of San Antonio, TX; Dwight and his wife Mary of Aurora, Colorado; and Doug and his wife Vickie of Elizabeth, Colorado; her eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her kindness and joy of life was appreciated and inspirational to her family and friends. She will be missed.
Two celebrations of life will be held next summer in hopes of no COVID-19 restrictions. The first will be held in Aurora at her son Dwight’s home and the second in Mound City, Missouri in conjunction with the JC Heck Family Reunion. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Colorado Talking Books Library at https://www.friendsofctbl.org/donationform.html.
