Richard M. "Dick" Bennett, 88, of Aurora, passed away September 13, 2020.

He was born January 11, 1932 in Gastonia, North Carolina, the son of George and Beulah (Outen) Bennett. He graduated from Charlotte Technical High School.

Dick then enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 12, 1950 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He transferred to the United States Army on March 17, 1967 as a Warrant Officer. He later retired as a Chief Warrant Officer on March 1, 1971. Richard served in Puerto Rico, Japan, Hawaii, Germany, Viet Nam and stateside in Georgia, South Carolina, Indiana, Wyoming and Colorado. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, RVN Campaign Medal and Army Commendation Medal.

On March 24, 1962 he married Arletta Wegner.

Following his discharge, Dick went to work at Thunderbird Realty for 25 years. While working at Thunderbird, Richard attended and received his certificate in Real Estate from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Richard was a member of the Heather Ridge Country Club, the Elks Club and the American Legion. He was an active member at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church prior to his illness.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to golf and travel.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arletta Bennett; two children, Randy J. (Barbara) Bennett and Judi L. (Nate) Miller; four grandchildren, Heather Bennett (Joe) Roland, Erin Bennett (Cody) Mintle, Thomas B. Waldschmidt and Sydney L. Waldschmidt and five great-grandchildren, Kyrik, Riley, Dylan, Brianna and Kyla.

He is preceded in death by his son, Preston D. Bennett, deceased in infancy; father, George M. Bennett; mother, Beulah Bennett and four siblings, George M. Bennett, Jr., Juanita Bennett Smith, Frances Bennett Setter and Peggy Bennett Belk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick's name to a charity of the donor's choice.
