Rosabelle E. "Rosie" Howard, 96, of Aurora, passed away October 10, 2020.

She was born June 8, 1924 at the family farm in northern Missouri, the daughter of Jacob and Cora (Huntsman) Hicks.

In 1938 she lost her father, whom she dearly loved, to a sudden death of tetanus. Her mother, whose health was failing, sold the farm and moved to Lamoni, IA where she and Rosabelle lived with her older sister for a few years.

She was a graduate of Lamoni High School in 1942. She received her Associates Degree in Music Education from Graceland College and her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education from Drake University.

She married Gilbert Percy Howard in May 1943. To this union were born three children: Nancy, Trudy, and Bruce Howard.

She was a teacher in Iowa before becoming a music teacher with Aurora Public Schools in 1967 and retired in June 1985.

After her retirement, Rosie taught private piano lessons for a couple of years and then started traveling with her husband.

Rosie was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and remained a faithful member until her death. She was also a member of PEO in Aurora. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to sew, cook new recipes, play the piano and sing.

Rosie is survived by son, Bruce Howard; two daughters, Nancy C. (Steve Sprague) Howard and Trudy J. (Larry Myers) Myers; five grandchildren, Megan (Kyle Gasser) Piper, Amber (Chad) Myers, Ross (Sonja) Piper, Hilary (Zach) McNeil and Brian Howard; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Myers, Jori Gasser, Colin Piper, Josie Gasser, Reyna Piper, Ava McNeil and Reese McNeil.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Gilbert P. Howard; father, Jacob Hicks; mother, Cora Hicks; brother, Ellis Hicks; sister, Iola Hicks Kaestner and grandson, Brandon Coffman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
