Remembering Nelson “Nel” Echeverry, Jr.

Born in Tacoma, WA on November 15, 1977. Nel became an angel in heaven on February 19, 2021. Nel grew up in Aurora and spent most of his life in the wonderful city of Aurora, CO.

Nel is survived by his loving parents Nelson and Amparo Echeverry, his loving sister Laura Anderson, his brother-in-law Carl Anderson, his niece Madison Anderson, and his nephew Liam Anderson.

Nel spent his life committed to putting a smile on people’s faces, bringing people together, and helping those in need. Nel accomplished these commitments in a variety of ways, but it was through his wonderful ability to play music that allowed him to display his talent, and truly bring people together. Although Nel could play the guitar with the best of them, he never took a guitar lesson; he was very proud that he learned this art by watching MTV as a child. And, we have all certainly asked Nel to play one more song!

There was never a moment that Nel wouldn’t stop to help someone in need. He would provide his last dollar to someone experiencing homelessness and didn’t think twice about it.

Perhaps it was his time with the Aurora Public Schools that allowed Nel to shine his brightest. He made such a positive impact on the children that he served. He would frequently tell his family and friends about the moments that he put a smile on a child’s face.

As we remember Nel, let us not forget the great sense of humor that would bring an entire room to extreme laughter. Let us not forget the moments that we have all shared with Nel regarding his intellect. Whether talking politics, sports, art, music, travel, or history; Nel taught each of us an invaluable lesson during any one of our encounters. If you have ever traveled with Nel, you are likely aware that there is not a history museum that he has not toured.

And, of course, let us never eat a slice of pizza without making a toast to our Nel. Nel is the ultimate pizza aficionado!

Nel brought joy to his friends and family in a manner that cannot be replicated, and he taught us all the importance of living life to the fullest. May each of us be stronger in knowing that Nel is watching over us.

A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th.
