Liz Dierksmeier, 67, passed on 16 February 2021 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado after a brave, strong, and courageous fight with metastatic breast cancer. She loved life but left us much too soon.
Beautiful inside and out, Liz will be remembered as a kind, giving, adventurous, caring, and colorful lady; as outgoing and fun with an infectious personality, sweet smile, and bright spirit; as an authentic, thoughtful, and compassionate friend to many; and as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who lived a full and happy life.
Love of Family- Liz was passionately dedicated to her family. She admired and was proud of her son’s Chris, Chad, and Ben and her Daughter-in-Law Emily. Her grandchildren, Calia and Jackson, were the joy of Liz’s life and she adored and dearly loved them and cherished the time spent with them. After meeting on a blind date in Germany, Liz and Fred were married in 1979 and were best friends, soulmates, and selfless companions for over 41 years of marriage.
Passion for Helping Others- As an Army spouse from 1979 to 1996 in Kansas, Virginia, Ohio, Louisiana, Germany, and Texas, Liz was actively involved in Family Support Groups, Officer’s Wives Clubs, and helping Army Families. Throughout her life, she used her special talents to help and inspire others by volunteering for the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Rotary Club, Neighborhood Watch, Church, PTA, Cub/Boy Scouts, and the Dallas Arboretum.
Adventurous Explorer- Liz loved to travel and discover new places, especially historic homes, museums, and gardens. Liz and Fred were fortunate to live in or visit 49 states; to live in Germany and travel extensively in Europe; and to explore Zambia, Uganda, and Morocco. Liz also loved to off-road in Colorado in her orange FJ Cruiser.
Can Do Spirit- Liz’s enthusiasm, drive, and energy was striking- she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State and her Master’s Degree from Northwestern State and over the course of her professional career, Liz worked as a College Administrator at three Universities to include George Washington University, a Red Cross Station Manager in Germany, a President of a Chamber of Commerce, and as a Family and Consumer Science High School Teacher.
Texan Through and Through- Born in Fort Worth and raised in the Dallas area, Liz loved Bluebonnets, Horned toads, Corn Dogs at the Texas State Fair, wearing cowboy hats and boots, going to rodeos, and the Dallas Cowboys. Although she lost her Texan accent, she was a 5th Generation Texan and proud of her heritage.
Liz was a vibrant and joyful soul placed on this earth to do good. She will be missed by her family and friends but will always and forever be in our hearts and minds.
