James Loren Tullis, 80, of Aurora, Colorado passed away peacefully at the Kindred Hospital-Denver on August 20, 2021.

Jim will be honored with a Military Service at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.

Jim was born on December 4, 1940 in Leon, Iowa to John (Jack) Groom Tullis, Jr. and Marguerite L. (Murphy) Tullis. He graduated from Grinnell High School in Grinnell, IA.

Jim served 11 years in the military during the Vietnam War to include deployments to Korea and Thailand. He served 3 years in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962 and 8 years in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1971. His last military tour was at Offutt Air Force Base, SAC Headquarters, in Bellevue, NE.

After his military service, Jim worked for Security Window Company in Omaha, NE, later transferring to Denver, CO with the expansion of the company. He married Colleen Hans in Omaha, NE in June of 1977, and they moved to Aurora, CO. He moved on to work for Color Tile and Continental Airlines before completing HVAC certification from Pickens Technical College in 1995. He continued to work as an HVAC technician until his retirement.

Jim was an avid reader, loved classic cars and oldies music, gardening (especially tomatoes) and enjoyed attending the kids’ sports, and cheering on his Denver Broncos. In the early days, he loved taking the family to the mountains hiking with the dogs, and enjoying all the different sites around the state.

Jim is survived by his wife Colleen Tullis of Aurora, CO, son Michael (Corinne) Tullis of Loveland, CO, daughter Erin Tullis of Aurora, CO; grandson Jack and granddaughter Kate of Loveland, CO; grandchildren Mercedes (Kevin) Pritchett of Oceanside, CA, Angelica and Elena of Loveland, CO; Jim’s daughter Tracey (Joe) Timerman of Colorado Springs, CO and 3 grandchildren, Jeremy, Heather and Scott; Jim & Colleen’s daughter Jennifer (Chad) Elmendorf of Longmont, CO and 2 grandchildren, Evan and Kaitlyn; sister Marcia (Neill) Seeber of Carrollton, TX; brother John (Liz) Tullis of Pearland, TX, sister-in-law Ann Tullis of Sunriver, OR; sisters Karen (Ken) Gross of Boulder, CO and Kathy (George) Grisinger of Plantation, FL; brothers Jack (Mabel Pittman) Tullis of Juneau, Alaska and Harry (Timi) Tullis of Juneau, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Marguerite Tullis, step mothers Verna Tullis and Catherine Tullis, brother Tom Tullis, and brother-in-law Rick Brewer.

He made a lasting impression on everyone he met, and will be missed.
