In Loving Memory of Bernice Marie Spencer
A Time to Be Born:
Bernice Marie (Sims) Spencer was born June 16,1941, outside of Shreveport near Jamestown, Louisiana to the late Vertis Sims and Nicie (Rhodes) Sims.
A Time to flourish:
Bernice was raised in Minden, Louisiana as a child. She graduated from Fresno High School and would later travel alongside her husband Levander across the United States and England. In 1978 she moved to Aurora, Colorado where she furthered her education, completing her Associate degree at Community College of Aurora and a Bachelor’s degree at Phoenix University in Colorado.
Bernice enjoyed a fun game of bid whist, cooking for her family and closest friends, and relaxing on Sunday’s watching her favorite teams; the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers. She loved traveling and serving as a volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at T.R.E.A. in Aurora, Colorado. She served the Women’s Auxiliary in the capacity of Secretary and the President of Chapter 3.
In her lifetime, she battled and survived breast cancer. She worked tirelessly as a Supervisor at the Butterball processing company until she retired in 2011 at the age of 70 years old.
A Time to Love:
In 1956 she was joined together in holy matrimony with Levander Enman, until his death in October 1965. Levander and Bernice were the proud parents of five children Gloria, Richard, Derek, Marlene, and Darlene. Sadly, she lost her son Derek in 1998 and her daughter Darlene in 2011.
In 1985 she was joined in holy matrimony with Kerney Spencer Sr. until his death in August of 1988.
In 2012, she met her very special companion, Roy Humphries with whom she shared great joy with until her passing.
A Time to Worship:
She accepted Christ later in her life and she continued to grow closer to Him as she learned more about the value of having a relationship with Christ.
A Time for Every Purpose under the Sun:
After a lengthy illness, Bernice completed the transition of life on January 2, 2022, peacefully at her home in Aurora, CO.
