Jerry Downs, Sr., 82, of Northglenn, Colorado died Monday, January 10, 2022. He was born to the late Headley and Elsie Downs on October 21, 1939 in Hackleburg, Alabama. Jerry graduated from High School in 1956 and later earned his Associates Degree during his time in the Air Force Reserves. Jerry married Florence Downs in 1970 and together they raised their four children in Northglenn.

Jerry was a Project Superintendent of construction until he retired in 1999. Jerry was a passionate servant for Alcoholics Anonymous where he dedicated his life to supporting and sponsoring those seeking recovery. Jerry loved to fish, travel, gamble, cheer for his Denver Broncos, laugh, and tell and retell stories. His greatest accomplishment was the beautiful family that he created with the love of his life, Flo.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Florence Downs; his four children: Cheryl Hendricks of Tallahassee, Florida; Toni Butler of Thornton, Colorado; Jerry Downs, Jr. of Northglenn, Colorado and Robin Gilchrist of Thornton, Colorado. He is also survived by five of his six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Headley and Elsie Downs, grandson Matthew David Fuss and his sisters: Nancy, Geraldine, and Analee.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Elevations Hospice of Colorado or St. Judes Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Sons of Italy on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 12pm followed by a luncheon. This will be an open-speakers reception and the family would like to invite Jerry’s friends and loved ones to share a few words during this time.
