Carl Mack Duncan was born August 26, 1930, in Alamosa, Colorado. He was the third of four children born to Ruth and Carl G. Duncan. He had three siblings, Jo Ann, Lois Lee and Earl Grey. He grew up in Avondale, Colorado. Prior to moving to Avondale, he lived in Cortez and Oak Creek, communities in which his parents were teachers and school administrators.
After graduating from Avondale High School, he attended the University of Colorado and earned a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language. He enlisted in the Army and was a Korean War era veteran who served in Augsburg, Germany. He played French Horn in the 43rd Infantry Division Band and was company clerk of the 5th Infantry Division. As company clerk he realized he was good with numbers and used his GI bill to get an MBA from the University of Denver. He became a Certified Public Accountant and had a long and successful career, both working for others and as owner of his own firm.
He married Joan L. Foerster of Denver, Colorado in 1958. They raised their children, Laurene (Laurie), Bonney and David, in Littleton.
Carl was known for his wonderful sense of humor, knack for storytelling and love of classical music. He played the French Horn in the Denver Concert band for many years. He was active in charitable activities and was a member of several service organizations, including local Optimist and Sertoma clubs. He was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving as an elder and trustee and singing in the choir. He loved to stay fit by hiking, running (and later walking) and attending the gym regularly. He climbed several fourteeners and hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. He loved to travel and explore, including photographing old homesteads on the eastern plains of Colorado.
His parents, wife, sister Lois Lee Collins and son-in-law Joe Deuschle proceeded him in death.
He is survived by his sister Jo Ann Kincaide, brother Earl Grey Duncan, children Laurie (Greg) Romberg, Bonney Deuschle and David (Patti) Duncan, grandchildren Alex, Erica and Rebekah (Conner Jackson) Romberg, Brenna (Joseph) Smith, Connor Deuschle, Paul (Canada Albin) Duncan, Shayna (Caleb) Smith and Carlee Duncan, great-grandchildren Luca and Moses Smith, Gabriel Duncan and Carter Smith and many loving nieces and nephews.
