Kevin Eugene Johnson

April 17, 1963 — January 10, 2023

Kevin Eugene Johnson was born on April 17th, 1963 in Topeka Kansas. He was the second of three sons born to the union of Claude Williams Johnson and Joyce Ann Johnson. He moved to Denver Colorado with his mom and two brothers at an early age and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Kevin was a musical virtuosic cellist, a prodigy with an exceptionally high level of achievement skills starting from his adolescence years into adulthood.

Kevin had a witty personality, a culinary flare for cooking, and enjoyed the finer things in life.

Kevin attended the University of Denver as an undergraduate and from 1987-1991, he attended the University of Colorado Bolder and received a Bachelor of Music Degree. In 2005, Kevin and his best friend Debbie Fuller, who he met while attending Boulder University, created a CD together as they toured the mid-west playing the arts festivals.

He was a phenomenal musician and his journey consisted of a lengthy lifespan of accomplishments, which allowed him to be First Chair cellist throughout his career. He was the 'Principal' cello from 2011-2015 at Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and 2016 at Stratus Chamber Orchestra.
He performed in the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra and toured throughout the west and mid-west in which he played for silent movies. In addition to other orchestra performances during his travels, he also played in the groups associated with the Bach and Mahler Festival orchestras; along with the Columbine String Quartet Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra in Oregon.

In 2017, Kevin and Debbie toured the Czech Republic for a week with the Stratus Chamber Orchestra. After the tour, they stayed in Europe and visited Vienna, Austria, Budapest, Hungary, Frankfurt, Germany and many other beautiful places. The highlight of his life's journey was being a world traveler and sharing it with his best friend. This was Kevin's last tour; shortly afterwards, he retired from music to assist his mother with the care giving of his brother.

Kevin passed away on January 10th, 2023. He will be deeply missed and will forever be in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; Joyce Ann Johnson and Claude Williams Johnson; and his eldest brother; Claude Freeman Johnson. Kevin is survived by his brother, Curtis Maurice Johnson, in addition to; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives.
We will love and cherish his memories forever…
