Ronald Richard Walker (Ron) July 25, 1947-May 12, 2023

Ronald R Walker was born in Denver, Colorado on July 25, 1947 to Robert R Walker and Opal Raddatz.

Ron was educated at Emmaus Lutheran school in Denver and graduated from Lutheran High School in 1965. He attended Colorado State College from 1965 to 1969 and earned his A.B. in Physical Education. He then went on to graduate from the University of Northern Colorado in 1973 with a M.A. in Curriculum Instruction. He also earned his Type D administration license in 1981. Ron served from 1970 to 1979 in the U.S. Army reserves. His first professional job was teaching driver's education for Jefferson County School district and later became the driver education coordinator. In the late 1980’s Ron became an administrator and served as an assistant principal and interim principal at many Jefferson County High Schools and ended his 32 year career at Green Mountain High School.

He met Jane in 1972 while teaching at Bear Creek High School. They were assigned desks next to each other in the teachers workroom. Jane remembers him being a gentleman and it wasn’t long before they had their first date at the Country Broker. When she saw the bowl of shrimp he ordered she knew then he couldn’t be all bad. They were married on March 22nd,1975. They have three sons, Sean and the twins Marc and Matt.

Ron always had to be doing something so his retirement was short lived. He decided to go into business with a fellow administrator and opened Green Mountain Car Wash-”The finest place to squirt your dirt.” His business was as much about cleaning cars as chatting with customers. In conjunction, from 2009, he served as a board member of the Jeffco Credit Union, which later became Westerra Credit Union. He continued to serve on the advisory committee and later as a board member until his death.

In 2003 he fulfilled a childhood dream of owning a Corvette when he purchased his first 1998 Torch Red Corvette. Ron and Jane joined the Looking Glass Corvette Association in 2003 and continue to be members. He went on to continue upgrading his collection and culminated with the purchase of his crown jewel 2020 C8 StingRay mid engine Corvette in February of 2023.

Ron was a 75 year native of Colorado and enjoyed everything Colorado had to offer. He was fond of golfing, fishing, hunting, football, and baseball. He also loved talking to anyone he met and never met a person he didn’t know their life story within 15 minutes. He loved all the Colorado sports teams and his favorite was baseball. He was a season ticket holder of the Colorado Rockies since their first season in 1993 and attended countless baseball games with the foul balls to prove it. He was fortunate to be able to attend the Rockies only World Series appearance in 2007. One of his crowning achievements in sports was bowling a perfect 300 game.

He always enjoyed the holidays for time with family and friends but Ron’s favorite was Christmas. He shared his joy with the Green Mountain community by his lights display and decorations across the entire exterior of his home, often exceeding 10,000 or more lights. He was very proud of the joy his Christmas lights brought and we often joked that his lights display could be seen from space. It was significant enough to win the community association’s first place honor for many years.

Ron and Jane were also avid world travelers visiting amazing places such as Africa, Singapore, and Thailand. Highlights were Vienna and China and a grand European cruise and Mediterranean cruise. Together they visited many U.S states such as Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Arizona and others.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Bob and Opal. He is survived by his wife Jane of 48 years, three children: Sean and wife Christi, Marc and Matt, four grandchildren: Taryn, Ari, Logan and Ava, two brothers: David and wife Lee and William and wife Corinne, three nephews: Jeff, Chris, and Mason, seven nieces: Melissa, Michelle, Tori, Alex, Becky, Jessica and Ava.

Ron will be cremated and laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life open house will be held Friday, June 23rd from 4pm-7pm and Memorial Services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, June 24th at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 920 Kipling St. Lakewood, CO 80215 as well as live streamed through the church. Notes from Ron’s Brothers:

He was a great uncle and the best brother anyone could have. He showed us the way and gave me and Bill someone to look up to and do it the best it could be done. We had great parents, and he took all their love and guidance and gave it to me and Bill. He showed us how to make money with lawn mowing jobs to shoveling snow and on to paper routes. He always had a drive to help out our parents as we did not have a lot, but we always had each other. He was our cornerstone. A great athlete and best of friends to all he was with. He was more than a brother. He was our inspiration and someone who always had the answers. We will miss you and our love and guidance. ~David

Even at an early age, Ron was an entrepreneur. Saving was a part of his life, starting with his paper route at age 14. He always had a summer job from high school through college. He was a sports fanatic from grade school on. He was a gifted three sport athlete (football, basketball, and baseball). As a Junior in high school, he was invited to a tryout camp with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Estes Park. He had leadership qualities throughout grade school and high school. He was named student of the year in 9th grade at Emmaus Lutheran School, Newspaper Carrier of the Year in North Denver for the Rocky Mountain News, President of the Lettermen’s Club at Lutheran High School in Denver. He loved fishing and hunting. He was always a giver, never a taker. That was true throughout his life. Ask any of his family or friends, and they will confirm that. I can sum up how I feel about Ron. He was my hero. Along with my dad, I tried to emulate them both because I knew no finer men than these two. ~Bill
