Alfonso Figueroa, 82, of Aurora, passed away October 3, 2015.
He was born August 25, 1933 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, the son of Inocencio Figueroa and Josefa Lopez. He was a graduate of Academia Santa Teresita High School. He attended University of Puerto Rico (RUM). On August 1, 1958 he married Aurea Figueroa, of Naranjito, Puerto Rico. They lived together in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, before relocating to Aurora, Colorado in 1992.
Alfonso is survived by his four children, Yadira Figueroa, Luis (Alicia) Figueroa, Carlos (Melba) Figueroa, and Daniel Figueroa; nine grandchildren, Joey (Anna) Ocasio, Yasdelle (Marvin) Breaux, Darien McCullom, Gian Figueroa, Nicole Figueroa, Sara Figueroa, Paco Figueroa, Sofia Figueroa, and Marcos Figueroa; six great-grandchildren, Quincy Breaux, Ella Breaux, Alicia Ocasio, Maya Ocasio, Zoey Ocasio, and Jayden Rust; brother, William Figueroa. He is preceded in death by his wife, Aurea M. Figueroa; parents Inocencio Figueroa and Josefa Lopez; siblings, Chenchito, Cheo, Chuquin, Chavelo, Sefita, Marta, and Lola.
Alfonso was a loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend to all. He was a hard worker all his life. He worked for the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture and retired after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he moved to the United States to be close to his children. He began working for Costco and remained there for many years until he was forced to stop due to his illness.
He thoroughly enjoyed to watch his baseball games and his favorite team were his beloved Colorado Rockies. He was an avid pool player and loved to play with his son and friends. Alfonso was always there to help family and friends with projects or whatever else they needed him for. The day we lost you, we lost a father, a friend, a mentor, and a great man we all looked up to. We will miss you dearly! Rest in Peace.
There will be no viewing of the body. The cremation will take place on October 14, 2015 and the ashes will be taken to Puerto Rico for burial on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 2pm at The Puerto Rico National Cemetery. There will be a Mass service at Saint Michael The Archangel Catholic Church, Naranjito, Puerto Rico, on the morning of October 29, 2015 at 9:00AM.
