Alfred Burr Wendling of Lakewood, Colorado died Wednesday in a traffic accident in Golden. He was 64.
He was born to the late Weston and Thais Wendling, August 19, 1949, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The family moved to Arizona when he was two and Alfred went to school there, graduating from Prescott High in 1967. He attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona and moved to the Denver area in 1976.
Alfred was working at the Colorado School of Mines at the time of his death and formerly worked for Precious Cat, Tharco, Sashco and Lockheed Martin.
Alfred was a sweet, generous, caring man who put others before himself. He helped all he met – friends, neighbors and strangers alike. He loved animals – especially cats who he indulged. His fondness for cats began with Sparkle and Blondie in childhood, continuing on to Puddy, Munchkin, Cali and The Boy. He enjoyed golf, cars, music and the beach.
He is survived by his beloved friend Mary Schafer, siblings Weston and Cindy, nephews Trey and Sam Jackson, and nieces Joy Bird and Beth Shippy.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Humane Society, Dumb Friends League or a charity of choice.
Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home West Metro Chapel Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 pm. Viewing is prior to the service at 1 pm. There will be a gathering after the service.
