Alice Faye Sturges, age 71, died peacefully on September 26, 2017 in Denver, Colorado. Alice was born to the late James Nelson Sturges and Cordia Mae Sturges on October 22, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas. Alice attended Como Elementary School, Como Junior High School and Como High School.
On the advice of her late Uncle, James Morgan, Alice moved to Denver, Colorado in 1970. Alice worked at Best Quality Plastics and Samsonite throughout the 1970's. It was at Samsonite where Alice met Floyd Benjamin, who would be her soulmate for 46 years.
Family, cooking, shopping at Kmart and enjoying time at home were Alice's passions and gave her the most joy. Alice's culinary skills stood out most on holidays, birthdays and Sunday dinners. Alice was a Christian who early in her life accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Alice shall forever be remembered in the hearts of her loving husband, Floyd Benjamin; sons, Anthony Wayne Sturges and Tommy Bernard Sturges; daughter Rosalind Michelle Sturges; step-son Michael Benjamin, grandchild Andre Lamar Sturges, four-step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; brothers Willie James Sturges and David Nelson Sturges; sisters Deborah Ann Marshall and Peggy Joyce Ferguson. Two sisters, Dorothy Benton and Claudia Ruth Sturges preceded Alice in death. Alice also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held Saturday October 7, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M at Newcomer Family Mortuary, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, Colorado.
A private family celebration for Alice will be held October 28, 2017 from 2:00 P.M – 4:00 P.M at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3301 Leyden Street, Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in Alice's name to Aurora Mental Health Center, 791 Chambers Road , Aurora, Colorado 80011.
