Allen Clark Swarts, Sr., died Mar 23, 2016
He is survived by his wife, Utako Swarts of Aurora. His sons, Alan C. Swarts, Jr. and M. Swarts.
Allen was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and emigrated as an infant to Niagara Falls, New York. All of his education in the public school system was in Niagara Falls.
Following high school, Allen was employed by the Moore Business Forms, Gilman plant, in Niagara. He learned the printing trade there, achieving journeyman status in 1948.
World War II saw Allen entering the US Army in 1942. After training in the States, he was shipped to the South Pacific where he participated in three combat campaigns before returning home two years later in 1945.
Returning to Gilman, Allen resumed his trade until being recalled to active duty from the Army Reserves in 1951. Following training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Allen underwent parachute training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Allen moved to Bavaria in Germany with this division.
Completing a total of 25 years Army service in World War II, Korea and later in Vietnam, Allen retired at Fort Dix in 1974 with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Moving to Japan, he went to the Pacific Stars and Stripes military newspaper where he was employed in the editorial division. Allen returned to the US in 1978 where he entered the Postal Service. He retired from there in 1996.
In his military service he was awarded the Army Bronze Star Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal (three awards), Good Conduct Medal (seven awards), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal (three combat stars), WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Medal (two awards), Foreign Service Medal-Korea, Viet Nam Service Medal (four combat stars), Republic of Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of Philippines Award, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards) and the Viet Nam Cross of Honor Medal. As well the Master Parachutist Badge and German Parachute Badge attested to his Airborne Services. Plus the German Army Schutzenschnur (Marksmanship award) Cord in Gold and the German Army Sports Badge for excellence in Sports Service.
A life member of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the 82nd Airborne Association, Allen Swarts was as well a member of Aurora Lodge No. 156, F and A.M. Masons and the Denver Scottish Rite Lodge.
He thrived by his credo: "Go Airborne!"
Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
