Allen Carl Gorniak, fondly known as “Al” to those who loved him, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, in his home in Lakewood, Colorado. Born on March 13, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, Al’s life was marked by unwavering kindness, devotion to family, and a masterful dedication to his craft. He faced the last eight years of his life with remarkable courage, battling cancer with the same strength and resolve that defined him.
Al was a skilled and artistic finish carpenter whose meticulous work brought beauty and function to high-end homes and several prominent commercial spaces, including local restaurants, hospitals, and offices. His custom woodwork, cabinetry, and millwork showcased not only exceptional craftsmanship but also a deep commitment to quality. Beyond his professional achievements, Al generously contributed his talents to his community, assisting friends and neighbors in the Southampton Townhomes complex by building decks, closets, and custom doors. Every project he undertook bore the hallmark of his careful attention and pride in his work.
A proud veteran, Al served in the Army during the Vietnam Era, stationed in Korea where he managed supply and mail operations. His patriotism and pride in his service were integral parts of his identity, reflecting a lifetime of loyalty and dedication.
Those fortunate enough to know Al remember a man with a giant heart—kind, accepting, and generous to all. He bridged generations and backgrounds effortlessly, building lifelong friendships rooted in mutual respect and warmth. To his family, he was not only a husband and father but the "cool uncle" who shared unforgettable moments. Summers spent fishing in Colorado with his nieces are treasured memories, as are the adventures with his wife Jackie and their children at Lake Powell—a trip forever marked by a humorous mishap involving numerous fishing poles and a united effort to piece them back together.
Al’s protective nature was legendary within his family. His love and care were shown in grand gestures and small acts alike—from standing tall and scaring away a bear during a picnic in Evergreen to leaving heartfelt letters around the house for Jackie to find after he was gone. He was deeply connected to those he loved, always putting their well-being first.
His passions extended beyond woodworking and family. Al’s love for motorcycles was evident in his extensive collection of Harley Davidson T-shirts, long after he no longer rode his own bike. His loyal companion Lulu, his beloved dog, was by his side until the very end, a testament to the unique bond they shared. They supported one another through life’s joys and challenges.
Al is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Jackie, his son Matthew (Jamie), daughter Jennifer (Kyle), and beloved grandchildren Kody and Kayla. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Debbie and Cheri, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry forward his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia and Sylvester Gorniak, and his brother, Robert Gorniak.
Al’s proudest accomplishments were not found solely in his carpentry or military service but in the family he nurtured and the friendships he cherished deeply. His legacy of love, strength, and kindness will resonate through the lives he touched—an enduring tribute to a man who lived fully, loved fiercely, and left a mark on all who knew him.
A private interment will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
