Allen Gould

November 27, 1935 — May 10, 2025

Allen Clyde Gould, 89, passed away peacefully at his home of 46 years in Aurora Colorado surrounded by his family on Saturday May 10th. Allen was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa on November 27th 1935. The family moved a few years later to Colorado Springs for Allen’s father Don to teach Geology at Colorado College.

Allen attended Colorado Springs High School (now known as Palmer Ridge) for 2 years then transferred his last two years to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington Missouri where he trained in leadership, military history, and academics. After graduation, Allen enlisted in the United States Army where he spent the next 4 years serving his country in Bitburg, Germany.

After his service, Allen used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder (‘60-’64) where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geography and played the trombone in the CU marching band. Shortly after graduation, Allen met his wife Rose in Denver and began courting. Allen and Rose moved to Norman, Oklahoma while Allen pursued his Masters Degree in Regional City Planning at the University of Oklahoma. After his degree, Allen and Rose moved back to Denver where they were married the summer of 1969 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Arvada.

The family moved around for the next decade while Allen worked as a city planner in several places like Norman, Oklahoma; Helena, Montana; Logan, Utah; and Salida, Colorado. In 1979, the family moved for the last time to Aurora, Colorado where Allen took a position at Lowry Air Force Base, eventually working as the Environmental Coordinator for the base. Allen remained there until the base was decommissioned and closed in 1994. Retirement did not suit Allen well, and he returned to the workforce for the next half decade working at various jobs such as the EPA and the US Federal Center.

Allen was an active member of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for nearly 50 years where he was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a long time member of the choir.

Throughout his life Allen remained physically and mentally active. He enjoyed reading, chess, and playing Scrabble to keep his mind sharp. Up until a few years ago, he remained physically active with daily calisthenics, swimming, hiking, biking, walking the dog, hunting, fishing, and even skiing until he was 88. His greatest jpy, however, was spending quiet and peaceful time at his cabin southwest of Fairplay where he spent his life exploring the solitude of the mountains.

Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose Gould (Ortiz); son Scott Gould and son Charles both of Lakewood, Colorado; and his black lab Toby.

Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Boyd and Frances Catherine (Leitner); and younger brother, Warren of Pasadena, California.
