Celebrating the Life of Alma Cox Matthews
Alma Cox Matthews was born in Coffeevilee, Alabama on September 8th, 1924. She was born to Hartis and Vinnie Cox. Alma attended Jackson High School in Jackson, Alabama. She came to Denver, Colorado in 1945 and worked as a nurse's aide for several years. She left Colorado in 1978 and worked as a supervisor at the Jackson County Sheriff's Department in Kansas City, Missouri. Alma also worked in the ministry in Kansas City, Missouri. She then returned to Colorado in 1991 and remained in Colorado with her husband, Leonard Matthews. Alma attended Morning Star Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado led by Pastor H. Swazer.
