Alma Rose Wynter

November 19, 1941 — March 5, 2016

Alma Rose (Nash) Wynter, age 74, born November 19, 1941 to Bettie Lee Briscoe and Herbert Nash in Bastrop, Louisiana. She died March 5, 2016 in her home in Aurora, Colorado, after a long battle with cancer. Her son, Darrell Murphy and a brother Tommy L. Nash were by her bedside at the time of her passing. She is survived by two sons; Rodney Frank Murphy of Kansas City, Kansas and Darrell Fredrick Murphy of Aurora, Colorado; and two grandchildren, Rodney Frank Murphy Jr., and Quante Murphy of Kansas City, Kansas.

In addition, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews form an extended, grieving family. Her brothers are: Roy Tabb of Kansas City, Kansas; Tommy L. Nash of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Herbert Nash Jr. and James Nash of Denver, Colorado; and Herman Charles Nash of Los Angeles, California.

Her sisters are: Ruby L. (Briscoe) Anderson of Kansas City, Kansas; Viola (Nash) Pryor of Henderson, Colorado; Mary Louise (Nash) Church of Denver, Colorado; Brenda Faye Nash, Alice Marie Nash and Kathleen (Nash) Struell of Sacramento, California; and Elouise Monroe, Louisiana Bailey and Wanda Faye (Nash) Alexander of Winnfield, Louisiana.

Nieces and nephews include: Anthony Anderson of Kansas City, Kansas; Alan Anderson of Kansas City, Missouri; Dwaine Anderson, Dwaine Anderson Jr. and Brandon Williams of Kansas City, Kansas; Tony L. Anderson of Houston, Texas; Gwendolyn Tabb and Von Tabb of Monroe, Louisiana; Shawn Tabb of Los Angeles, California; Melissa T. (Nash) Smith of Atlanta Georgia; Marcus, D. Nash of Las Vegas, Nevada; Kaylan E. Nash of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Jeremiah Nash and Jayden Nash of Stockton, California; Bronson Nash of Las Vegas, Nevada; Tommy L. Nash Jr., Tahleah R. Nash, Tommy L. Nash, III, and Leilani Nash of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Justice Davis, Raven Nash, Julissa Davis of Atlanta, Georgia; and Cicely M. Nash of San Francisco, California.

Her cousins are: Cleveland and Regina McBeth, and Estella Taylor of Kansas City, Kansas; Ida (McBeth) Searcy of Kansas City, Missouri; Ronnie and Connie Williams of Long Beach, California; Michael Taylor and Jason R. Searcy of Kansas City, Missouri; Carla Briscoe of Kansas City, Kansas; Angel (Briscoe) Murphy of Dallas, Texas. A host of other great nieces and nephews form Alma's remaining family.

Alma attended Swayze Elementary School, Junior High School eight years and one year of high school at Tergia High School in Monroe, Louisiana, before moving to Kansas City, Kansas, to live with her mother, Bettie L. Briscoe. She enrolled in Sumner High School and graduated in the class of 1960. Alma was a good student who developed an interest in writing and journalism. She also had a strong desire to help people, which led her into the nursing field. She enrolled in the University of Kansas School of Nursing and completed a Licensed Practical Nurse nursing degree which engaged her in a career of fifty years working in many areas of the nursing profession, such as research, private duty, hospital patient care, emergency rooms, and nursing homes.

Alma always possessed an insatiable desire for knowledge in many areas. She was active in sharing her faith and witnessing to the people in her environment. She traveled to many parts of the world, getting to know and understand people of all races and cultures. She had a sense of humor, laughing and sharing stories and fables told to her by her grandmother and grandfathers while growing up in the South. She will be sadly missed by her family and the friends she made everywhere she worked and lived.
