Althea E. Paine

August 18, 1925 — October 5, 2015

Althea E. Paine, 90, passed away October 5, 2015, with loved ones by her side.
Born August 18, 1925 in Friend, NE, Althea was the oldest daughter of the late John and Hulda Rohrig. She was raised on the family farm with four other siblings and graduated from Friend High School. She then moved to Omaha to attend business school. Upon completion, she began a journey to work her way to Alaska, first stop Denver. In Denver she was employed by the Gates Rubber Company as a secretary and met Walter W. Paine. Their marriage took place on June 22, 1947. They were married 47 years; devoted to each other, family, friends and their love of travel. They did make it to Alaska. Walter passed away on March 10, 1994.

She is survived by her children Thomas Paine and Marilyn (Paine) Leggett; five grandchildren, Susan (Paine) Sutliff, Jordan Leggett, Kayla Paine, Jaxson Leggett and Joshua Leggett. She is further survived by three great grandchildren, Richie Sutliff, Brinna Sutliff, Hudson Sutliff and siblings Richard Rohrig, Everet Rohrig, Melody Inchumuk and Nancy Weber. There are many nieces/nephews and grandnieces/grandnephews that she loved and is survived by as well.

Walter and Althea became members of Bethel Lutheran church in the early years of their marriage, near the beginning of the church's organization. They relocated to Rockford, IL for twelve years and returned to Aurora in 1976. Upon Walt's retirement from the Gates Rubber Company they enjoyed 11 years in Apache Junction, AZ. Althea was always very involved in the church wherever they lived and was still active in Bethel's ladies circle, prayer group and a Bible study until shortly before her passing.

Althea was an accomplished homemaker who enjoyed baking, sewing, preparing for the next trip and volunteering wherever she noted a need. Through the years she was a Stephen Minister, 4H leader, Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, driver for Meals on Wheels, swim instructor for disabled, and room mother. She felt music education was important for children and as such rarely missed a school program, concert or church performance by her grandchildren. Aside from volunteering with organized groups she gave of her time to others her entire life.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Althea at Bethel Lutheran Church, on October 31, 2015. Hymn singing will begin at 10:30 AM and the service will begin at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, Althea desired donations to be made in her memory to the scholarship program of Young Voices of Colorado at 99 E Inverness Dr., Suite 150, Englewood, CO 80111.
