Aretha Huntington, age 78 of Aurora, CO, passed away peacefully on Aug. 14, 2026.
Aretha was born on December 29, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Benny and Theolla Kinney. Raised in a military family, Aretha attended many schools, eventually graduating from Junction City High School in 1965. After graduation, she attended Manpower Business Institute, graduating and going on to build a career at US Bank National Association, where she worked many years before retiring in 2013. She married at a young age, and in 1967 she was blessed with her firstborn, Vernon LaMont Jones, followed by Quincy Donnell Mitchell in 1976. In 2000 she met her forever love, Robert Huntington. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, traveling, and playing dominoes — yes, she was the queen. During high school she met her best friend of 66 years, Helga Robbins. Aretha was a Christian who loved the Lord, and she taught her sons to follow Him as well. She served as a greeter at Heritage Christian Center and volunteered at Hope City Church. After retiring, she also volunteered as a mentor to troubled girls at Excelsior Youth Center. She loved life!
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Robert Huntington; her sons Vernon Jones and Quincy Mitchell (Tracy); her grandchildren Nyelle and Quincy; her brother David Kinney (Cindy), David, Nadiyah, and Jason, and a host of nieces and nephews; the Blockton, Kinney, and Huntington families; her favorite friends Helga, Patrice, Elaine, Chuck, and Terry; and her two favorite granddogs, Bronx and Najah.
She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, grandparents, and granddaughter Dajanae, along with a host of extended family and friends.
