Blanche Arlene Howe
January 1, 1940 - July 15, 2013
Arlene Howe was born to William and Blanche (Warnock) Gunderman on January 1, 1940 in Dundy County near Parks, NE. She attended school in Parks and graduated as Valedictorian in 1957. After High School she enrolled at Barnes Business College in Denver, CO. Upon completion she was employed by Rickenbaugh Cadillac for four years.
She was united in marriage to William F. Howe on December 31, 1958. They lived in Aurora, CO for 25 years, moving to Castle Rock and finally settling in Brighton, CO.
Arlene constantly kept her hands busy with flower and vegetable gardening, and crafts. Arlene gave many of these crafts away to people who meant a lot to her. She also loved the challenge of restoring family heirloom clocks as well as making grandfather clocks. A good share of these clocks was passed on to family members over the years. Restoring antique furniture was also another love.
Together Bill and Arlene enjoyed traveling, especially in their camper. They had visited 49 of the 50 states.
Arlene had a loving and caring personality that seemed perfectly attuned to canine friends having had many dogs in her life. She supported charities where animals were involved.
Arlene's most joyous occasion was when a small three-year old neighbor girl by the name of Katie asked if Arlene would be her grandma. They brought so much joy to each other's lives whether just sitting together talking or taking off and going places.
Arlene passed away at the age of 73 after struggling with health issues at Platte Valley Hospital on July 15, 2013. She will be missed by her husband Bill, two sisters Velma Mullanix of Benkelman, NE and Joan Richard of St. Francis, KS, a brother John Gunderman of Green River, WY, and her granddaughter, Katie Martinez. She had many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her greatly.
Services will be held on July 24, 2013 at Newcomer West Metro Chapel and Funeral Home at 11:30 am, with burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
