Austin D. Smith

July 31, 1935 — June 3, 2013

OBITUARY FOR AUSTIN SMITH 7/31/35-06/03/13

Austin ("Phred" as his children called him) passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2013 after valiant 15 month battle with cancer. His family was at his side.

Born July 31, 1935 in San Antonio, Texas to Carl and Leona Smith, he was the 5th of 7 children. After graduating high school he moved to Pueblo Colorado. Shortly thereafter he was drafted by the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country during the Korean War.

Upon his discharge he enrolled in Pueblo Junior College in Colorado where he met the woman who would later become his lovely bride. He married Lois Jackson on June 12, 1960 and they raised two children-Renise and Marc.

Electrical Engineering was his educational path, and that was his career of choice. He worked at the Bureau of Reclamation until his retirement.

An avid and passionate golfer, he enjoyed hitting the green with many of his "golfing buddies" as he referred to them. Being a regular on the links, golfers in the area knew him by sight if not by name.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years Lois, his two children Renise and Marc, siblings Anita Crandle, Lois Weston, Gary (Ida Jean) Smith, and Nora Ward, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
