Barbara J. Steinmeyer

August 3, 1954 — October 26, 2015

After shaking her fist at pancreatic cancer for four long months, Barbara J. Steinmeyer died suddenly in the early morning hours of October 26, 2015.

Barb was born to Irene and Horton Steinmeyer on August 3, 1954 in Cheyenne, WY. She was the fourth of seven children. She grew up in Denver and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1972. She studied architecture and horticulture at the University of Oregon, establishing friendships that endured through the years.

In the late 70's, Barb was a river guide for Adrift Adventures in Moab, UT, again establishing life-long friendships. She was employed in the horticultural and landscape industries, both in the private and public sectors, for many years, eventually forming her own company in the mid-1990's. For the past several years, she devoted herself to the four-legged clients of her pet sitting business, many of whose humans referred to Barb as the "cat-" or "dog-whisperer of south Denver", given her ability to bond with animals and reconcile innumerable behavior issues.

Barb was active in her community, serving for many years on the board of her neighborhood organization and as an election judge. She was a proud liberal democrat. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially time on any river, the Rolling Stones, and a good beer.

Barb was extraordinarily devoted to her parents in their final years. She is also predeceased by her brother Tom. She is survived by sister Mary of Fife, WA, and Kathy (Ted) of Kent, WA; brothers Mike (Brad) of Phoenix, AZ, Joe of Seattle, WA, and Paul of Denver, and Rocky, Olive, and Stellaaaa!.

A celebration of Barb's life will be held Spring 2016.
