Barbara Jean Nickels

Barbara was born May 27, 1934 in Lucerne, MO., the only child of Cecil and Jean Hughs. Barbara passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the age of 91.

Barbara married William M. Nickels on May 22, 1955 and shared 54 blessed years together, before Bill passed in 2009. Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother of four, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Bill and Barbara loved the outdoors, and enjoyed years of flying, fishing, hunting and camping with the family they raised. Together, they built their Geodesic Dome home in the mountains and Barbara loved to spend time there. Barbara was an avid reader and in the later years read several books a week. 

After Bill passed, Barbara stayed in their Brighton home until she needed more help. At that time, she moved to Aurora and lived with Penny and Terry for the next ten years. Later, it became necessary to move her to an assisted living facility with 24 hour care, where she passed away surrounded by family. 

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband and her daughter Faith Ann Nichols. 

She is survived by three children, Penny Reed (Terry), Randy Nickels and Stacy Gould. She has eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and countless friends and family whose lives she touched.
